On most current HPC systems the provided software provided is handled in a module system. The module system allows users to access the software packages and package versions that best fit their needs, while minimising the risk of software conflicts and interference between the needs of different users. Due to the ever increasing number of software packages provided in the module system, selecting the right modules adds another layer of complexity, unknown from desk top system and earlier HPC system.
This seminar addresses existing and prospective users at all levels. It will explain the rational behind the module system, how to search for software, how to make software available and avoiding the pitfalls. It discusses both, the needs of users utilising available packages and the needs of those users that use the provided software (e.g. compilers, libraries and utilities) to build their own software packages.
